The Greatest

3 Movies:

I Knew It Was You: Rediscovering John Cazale - Cazale is an American actor who died at 42 in 1978. In his short life he appeared in countless plays and 5 movies (including Dog Day Afternoon & The Godfather) which were all nominated for Oscars. In I Knew It Was You, Meryl Streep and Al Pacino – and many others – discuss his influence on their work.

A Touch of Greatness is a documentary about the work of educator Albert Cullum. Cullum’s  Shakespeare classes for school children in 1950s Rye, New York are legendary.

Hamlet 2 is the only movie I have paid to see in theaters twice.

Brain Foods:

On Being – Krista Tippett’s podcast “is a spacious conversation — and an evolving media space — about the big questions at the center of human life, from the boldest new science of the human brain to the most ancient traditions of the human spirit.”

Productive Flourishing – Charlie Gilkey’s blog has great tips workflow management, esp. for those of us working at home or on solo projects.

The Treatment – Elvis Mitchell’s weekly conversations with film folk.

Friends & Their Benefits:

Wordspace is an Atwater Village writing studio where I toss things around. Great classes, readings, and open mics.

Dyana Valentine is a professional creative butt-kicker. Her site’s got great videos and tools to help you finish what you start.

The Golden State LA’s best burgers and beer (and wine and gelato and…). If Jason’s working make sure to ask him about Heidegger.

Dallas Travers – bills herself as “The Actor’s Advocate.” And the thing is, she actually is.  Her book The Tao of Show Business is filled with effective actionable steps that produce fast results.

Jack Plotnick – is a wonderful LA actor & acting coach. His free ebook New Thoughts for Actors is a highly practical & spiritually comforting gift for the acting community.

Michelle Rose once took my headshots. Two hours into that fine day, she vowed to stick to inanimate objects. Since then she’s built an impressive portfolio of architecture & interiors and nature photography. I’m pleased to report that she’s reentered the human fray with the fantastic Subway Series.
